Getting Ready for 2026

With the new year just around the corner, I’ve been thinking about ways to make our goals for 2026 feel a bit more concrete. It’s easy to let resolutions slip away by February, but I really like the idea of creating a physical vision board this time. It’s less about making a perfect art project and more about getting those big dreams out of our heads and onto something we can see every single day while we’re rushing out the door or grabbing coffee.

A vision board is basically a physical collection of images and words that represent where we want to be. It could be specific—like focusing entirely on a career move or fitness—or just a general vibe for the year. The best part is that there are no rules. Whether it’s a photo of that dream house, a quote that hits home, or just a doodle that brings a smile, it’s all valid. The goal is simply to keep those priorities front of mind.

It works by turning vague intentions into something tangible. When life gets chaotic (as it always does), having that visual anchor helps us reset. It’s a moment of mindfulness just to sit down and make it, and later, it serves as a gentle nudge. Seeing a picture of a holiday destination might be the push needed to save a little extra that month, or a confidence quote might help during a tough work week.

If you’re wondering what to actually put on there, start with what resonates. It could be a dream holiday, a new hobby, healthy habits, or even just snapshots of quality time with family. I’m thinking of mixing in some personal photos with words like “balance” or “growth” to keep it grounded.

To get started, we just need the basics: some photo prints, poster board, scissors, glue, and maybe some markers or stickers. It’s a great excuse to finally print out those photos sitting on our phone camera rolls.

Here is the simple plan for putting it together:

  1. Reflect first: Before cutting anything, take a moment to think about 2026. What do we actually want? Career growth? More travel? Better health? Jot those down.
  2. Pick the format: A classic poster board works, but a cork board or even a scrapbook is fine too.
  3. Gather and Layout: Cut out the pictures and quotes, but don’t glue them yet. Move them around until the board looks balanced and makes you feel good when you look at it.
  4. Commit: Once it looks right, paste it all down.

The most important step is finding the right home for it. It needs to be somewhere obvious—like near the mirror or the desk—so it can actually do its job of keeping us on track. Let’s make 2026 the year we actually stick to the plan.
